Welcome to the West Essex YMCA website.  We are located in the heart of Livingston, New Jersey. The West Essex YMCA has been a hub of this community since its founding inWE YMCAsmall 1954. With an emphasis on family, the branch has become an innovator in child care and other family programs and activities. A full facility YMCA, West Essex features Cybex fitness center, gymnasium, Strive fitness center, pool, steam room and sauna, men's and women's lockers, showers, free weights, racquetball/handball court, child care for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years, family and teen programs, progressive aquatics instruction, recreational swimming, pre-school/youth sports, day camps, adult fitness classes and senior workout. Pool - A 25-yard, temperature-controlled, handicapped-accessible pool with lap, lesson, recreational and family times available. Children 5 years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult (18 yrs & Up) in the water.* Children 11 years old or younger must be supervised by an adult on the deck.* Children 12 years and older may be in the pool unsupervised.

  • Members must rinse off before getting into the water.
  • If hair falls below the ears members must wear a bathing cap.
  • When thunder is heard, the pool will be cleared. Swimmers are allowed back in the water 30 minutes after the last thunderclap is heard, or lightning seen.
  • All patrons must obey the West Essex YMCA pool rules and lifeguards at all times.

Wellness Center - Includes user-friendly, state of the art equipment: Strive Fitness Center, Complete Cybex Weight Training Circuit, LifeFitness Bicycles, StairMaster 4600 Freeclimbers, Concept II Rower, LifeFitness & StarTrac Treadmills, Sci-Fit Upper Body Ergometer, LifeFitness & StarTrac Crosstrainers, Hammer-Strength Machines, Smith Machine, Gravitron, Squat Rack, Cable Crossover, Precor AMT, full range of dumbbells and Swiss Balls.

  • Members must follow fitness guidelines workout and etiquette for all equipment to ensure safety and effectiveness of exercise.
  • Be courteous and wipe down equipment after each use.
  • If equipment is malfunctioning or you are not sure of its operation, seek staff assistance immediately.
  • Personal items must be off of the floor and out of the way of others using the room.
  • Food or drink other than water/energy drink are not permitted in the Wellness Center areas. 

Gymnasium - Regulation-size basketball court and volleyball court. Aerobic mats and steps are available.

Racquetball - A full-size racquetball court is available by appointment.

Poolsmall Locker Rooms and Showers – The West Essex YMCA provides separate male and female locker rooms. In addition, we offer two family locker rooms for parents with young children and those with special needs. Children 6 years or older cannot enter the opposite sex locker room. You must bring a lock to secure your locker while you are in the building. Locks must be removed after each use to allow other members to use the locker.

Valuables
West Essex YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.

Lost and Found
The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen property. However, items that are found and turned in are kept at the facility for a period of time. Unclaimed articles are given to charity.

Dress Code - Proper fitness attire and sneakers (no sandals or work boots) are required in the Wellness Center and Aerobics Room. A shirt must be worn at all times, no bare midriffs. Please remember that the YMCA is a family atmosphere.

Cell Phone Policy
West Essex YMCA is a cell phone free facility.

Code of Conduct
Members are expected to follow posted rules and notices while at the YMCA, i.e.: treadmill time limits, gym closing, swimming pool scheduling etc. All Members and participants must refrain from the use of foul language, abusive actions or inappropriate behavior. Respect others as well as building, equipment and the natural environment. YMCA Card 005 membership is a privilege, not a right. Failure to observe this code may result in the termination of privileges without refund.

Use of Photographs
By partaking in YMCA activities, permission is hereby granted to the West Essex YMCA to use photographs for marketing purposes, or on our website, or in promotional video.

Alcohol, Drug & Tobacco Use
Alcohol, Drug & Tobacco possession or use is not permitted on YMCA grounds or during YMCA programs as we promote healthy lifestyles. Persons suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be asked to leave YMCA property.

Website
On our website you have access to updated schedules, upcoming events, emergency or early closing information. Current Members have ability to register for classes or renew membership on-line.

Suggestion Box
Your constructive comments are always welcome! A suggestion box is located on the side table at the Welcome Center area. Suggestions are utilized to provide quality service to our Members. Please feel free to talk to any Staff Member.
