Baby & Preschool Aquatic Schedule

Parent-Toddler Swim (6-24 months)
This is an introduction to the aquatic environment for parents and their children. The program provides opportunities for parent/child teams to socialize with each other, to increase the level of trust, and to create a positive experience for the child in the water. Children learn basic aquatic skills and have fun with their parents while singing songs, playing with toys and flotation devices in a fun and safe environment.  Objective: to provide basic water movements and swimming skills, such as kicking, arm movements, breathing control (bubble blowing), back floating, and to introduce to basic aquatic safety. The class also provides group acclamation, a prerequisite for future aquatic classes. Swim diapers must be worn. A parent or guardian must accompany their child in the water.

Tadpoles (24 months-3 yrs)
Children continue learning basic water skills through water games and songs. Parents learn methods of working with their young ones to encourage water adjustment, self confidence, safety and fun in the pool. At this level, the instructor begins to prepare the children to work directly with an instructor on their own.  Objective: to develop the child’s listening skills, beginning swimming techniques, and helps parents to form reasonable expectations of their child’s progress through the rest of the aquatic programming. One adult must accompany each child. Swim diapers are required in the pool.

YMCA Preschool Instruction (3-5 yrs)
Each new level builds upon the skills and knowledge mastered in the previous level.  Listed are minimal skills required to enter each level. If you are not sure what level is best for your child, please contact our Aquatic Director prior to registration.  The following programs are designed without parental participation.  Parents are advised to stay in the pool area to observe from a distance, allowing for the proper learning environment.
